Mountain music musicians congregate around the Dahlonega Gold Museum State Historic Site every Saturday afternoon for Appalachian Jam sessions. The Appalachian Jam gives traditional mountain music players the chance to get together and celebrate the kind of music that has been performed in the Appalachian Mountains for generations. Musicians bring their instruments and gather on the historic Public Square to jam. Everyone else should come on down and listen or dance. Everyone is invited to attend. Bring an instrument to participate or just bring yourself to listen and enjoy.
The festival is known for live bluegrass mountain music, jam sessions, storytelling, live and silent auctions, and a dinner to kick things off on Friday, the 20th.
Bear on the Square has been featured in Explore Georgia’s “10 Signature Georgia Music Festivals to Experience this Spring.”

Winter 2017 is here in Dahlonega and the north Georgia mountains. The holidays are over, the crowds of tourists have left, the area is quiet and tranquil and all of our local wineries will be open on the weekends beginning January 16th – all but one will be open the weekend of the 8th.
Three Sisters Winery opens mid-January for weekends; Montaluce is open for tastings everyday all winter long as is Frogtown; Cavender Creek is open Thursday – Sunday through the winter months; Wolf Mountain’s winter schedule begins January 7th with Friday and Saturday tastings (restaurant reopens 2/11/17); Kaya is serving Wednesday thru Sunday. In White County, but not far away, Yonah Mountain is open seven days a week as is Cottage Winery. Check their web sites or call them for details.
Take advantage of the quiet season in our area. You can check the weather and make last-minute reservations for dining in town and lodging with us.
The Historic Holly Theater has two special musical performances planned for January 2017:
AIA, winner of the 1992 Margaritaville Records sponsored Jimmy Buffet Sound Alike Contest and the official Jimmy Buffet Tribute band, performs at the Holly on January 14th! The show is composed of Jimmy Buffett’s best songs and promises to be a great evening for all you “parrot heads”. Check out the pre-concert “tail gate” party on the patio at the Corkscrew Cafe.
Next is the Statler Brothers Tribute on January 28th. Join The River City Boys as they present The Songs of the Statler Brothers – A Tribute to the Statler Brothers 2002 Farewell Concert.
For tickets to the Jimmy Buffet or Statler Brothers tribute shows visit www.hollytheater.com or call (706) 864-3759
In the mountains the hiking is beautiful because the mountain vistas open up with the leaves off the trees. You can literally see for miles in many areas along the Appalachian Trail. The temperatures are colder and at times the wind might be brisk so wear appropriate clothing in layers. You might even see snow if you are lucky.
The waterfalls in the area are also special in the winter. Some may be covered in ice depending on the temperatures. Three of our favorite waterfall hikes are Amicalola, Raven Cliff Falls and DeSoto Falls.
Historic Downtown Dahlonega has many unique shops, wine tasting rooms, restaurants and art galleries that are open. Some restaurants have live music on weekends and even weekdays.
Also Valentines Day will fall midweek so you have two weekends to choose to celebrate with that special person.
Come stay with us and enjoy the North Georgia mountains in the winter of 2017. Visit our “availability calendar” link on the right to check availability and to make reservations online securely.

This comedy is a play within a play about – what else – a theatre company. It takes place – where else – Buffalo, NY. The rep theatre company with its own “cast of characters” is quite confused about which play they are doing when Frank Capra is coming to see the show to help him cast his next movie star in an upcoming film. Well, everything does not quite go as planned.
69 West Main Street
just off the historic public square in downtown Dahlonega.
Roaring Twenties socialite Mame Dennis teaches her orphaned nephew the nature of free living and free thinking, attempting to keep him from the clutches of the uptight world of his late father’s estate executor and, later, his fiancée. David Rothel will be reprising his role as a director for the musical Mame. In a role made famous by Angela Lansbury (stage) and Lucile Ball (film), Mame is most well-known for the song We need a Little Christmas.
